These two are the latest pictures: they show the new wheels which were necessary for the 944 braking system.

Here is my slightly modified interior, the new smaller steering wheel is much nicer for 'spirited' driving and the wood look is finally gone as I painted all the dash knobs.

I have yet to try out the Subaru turbo on the 1/4 mile drag strip properly, but it will definitely be quick (about 12s is a sensible guess)! 0-60mph benchmark in approximately 4 seconds.

Street Beetle (Chesil) Speedster

Replica of a Porsche 1957 356 speedster

Built in 1991 by the first owner on a factory supplied shortened VW Beetle chassis, it has a Guards Red gel-coat body that has also been painted in the same colour.

Black Vinyl interior with Chesil reclining seats (big improvement on the replica back-breakers!), 13" Mota-Lita steering wheel.

Alpine CD/tuner head unit with component speakers fitted in the footwells, automatic aerial.

Engine is from a 1997 Subaru Impreza turbo, 2l turbo fuel injected alloy boxer, K&N induction kit, straight through exhaust 2 1/2" mandrel bends and Jetex turbo muffler. Standard ECU set up using a modified Subaru loom. Estimated 240bhp and 230ftlbs torque at 3000rpm. Nearly 35mpg on average driving.

Rebuilt Porsche 911SC (915) 5 speed transmission, fitted in a raised position to regain some ground clearance from the sump!

Custom made heating system with a 3-speed blower motor. Proper heating/demisting!

Cooling is by a custom rear radiator between the bellhousing and rear right wheel, an Alfa 33 radiator is fiited up front. Coolant lines run in a false floor of the passenger side

Front suspension is by coil-over AVO damper units, fully adjustable for ride height, damping and stiffness (by swapping springs).

Front 944 ventilated disc brakes.

Rear suspension has been converted to IRS and uses coil-over AVOs, torsion bars removed, 944 suspension components and ventilated disc brakes.
